I'm not my illnesses
In progress
The project was created using mixed media and explores the relationship between identity, body, and illness in the contemporary context. Through a visual atlas composed of collages of empty medicine packages and diptychs and triptychs of Polaroid photographs, the work recounts both a personal experience and a condition shared by a generation marked by collective trauma.
The medicines taken become material traces of practices, while the Polaroids provide a fragmented narrative of the body, far from the clinical gaze and total representation.
The boundaries of the photographic medium are ‘broken down’ so that the viewer can have a unified view of the fragments of the body. The outer frame is constructed manually with crocheted cotton threads, a slow and healing gesture that contrasts with standardization.
The work investigates the body as a lived and inhabited space, the distance between identity and diagnosis, and photography as a place of relationship and reappropriation of experience.
