TRANSition

In progress

A visual and personal testimony of a young trans man’s mastectomy journey, from surgery to recovery, raising awareness on gender transition.

Materials: polaroids, digital photographs, cork support

Idea

This project is a collection of photographs taken before, during, and after a mastectomy surgery, documenting the journey of a young trans man who, like many in his situation, simply wants to feel at home in his own body.

The surgery lasts 1 to 3 hours, followed by 3–4 weeks of complete rest for proper recovery. These days are captured through daily Polaroid snapshots, diary entries by Gianmarco, and possibly poems.

The objective is to raise awareness about gender transition and share a real, personal story, encouraging others who, like Gianmarco, are navigating their own journey from assigned gender to true gender identity.
